History

Chris Munkholm founded Cape Ann COSMOS after the frustration of learning about concerts and exhibitions – after they closed. Why not an easy omnibus of listings? She asked.

And thus began a little newsletter that found a reporting niche while discovering a vibrant, regional cultural scene.

The broad coverage of the COSMOS newsletter reflects Chris’ eclectic pursuits and education. Art and design from Parson’s School of Design, Pratt Institute, and Cranbrook. Violin and dance from a lengthy list of studios. And chemistry degrees from Salem State and Tufts Universities, utilized in her 20+ year career in technology innovation.

Chris sees participation in the creative culture as a lifelong education. The artists teach us to see. The musicians how to hear. The writers teach us how to think. Her current textbooks include Birth of a Theorem by Cedric Villani and Diary of a Genius by Salvador Dali.

Chris has also launched Woolsthorpe Press, a publishing imprimatur for obscure science topics, with the first book now available on Amazon.

When not working on projects Chris enjoys the beauty of a Cape Ann beach and making quick trips to New York City for culture feasts.

But she has acquired a preference for the scale, intimacy, and indigenous nature of the greater Cape Ann cultural scene and now loves discovering the venues and artists who are creating Cape Ann’s second extraordinary resource.
