Wearable Art Stories

Queen Allotey-Pappoe and Beth Williams gave two of the wonderful Wearable Arts stories at Cape Ann Museum last night. Queen, born and raised in Ghana, discovered that her clothing designs give women joy. And this has made her career as a designer more rewarding than simply as a career. Her brand, Queen Adeline, is all made from prints and biodegradable fibers from Ghana.

Beth Williams, a co-founder of Wearable Arts and a jewelry designer, has been making glass beads and jewelry for 35 years, after she accidentally discovered her calling. Beth's shop in Gloucester is a garden of colorful beads and glass ornaments, which can be made into unique pieces.

The evening included a tribute to the great Mahri, a jewelry designer and clothing entrepreneur for 50 years on Cape Ann. She will be missed by all who knew her, but the Mahri shops and vision will continue, her presence  never lost or forgotten.
