Todd Gieg's Diorama: Boston, Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad Modules

On display at the Lynn Museum is a Diorama depicting 19th-century scenes of the Lynn, Boston, and Revere Railroad. And it is a masterful, miniaturized reproduction of the architecture, signage and scenery of the times. The Lynn-based artist Todd Gieg took twelve years to complete these first three, 4”x4” modules and hopes to complete the rest of the railroad Diorama within the next 8 years.

The charm of a well-designed and executed Diorama is that the longer one looks the more one sees, and this construction easily meets the discovery standard.  The attention and skill that Todd Gieg has applied to every detail is fascinating. The artistry of his signage especially adds authenticity and charm.

For home schooling households, the construction of a Diorama might provide a most edifying undertaking since the project would draw on multiple disciplines, including history, architectural design, 3-dimensional construction, mathematics for the scaling calculations, illustration and graphic design, as well as all of the many execution skills tapped. A dining room table might require sacrifice.

A visit to view Todd Gieg’s Diorama also offers a chance to check out the superb Lynn Museum, located in an elegant industrial style building situated in center of Lynn’s downtown, with Beyond Wall's  Street Art creations on many nearby walls. Lynn Museum, 590 Washinton Street, Lynn. $5 admission, free parking on street.
