COSMOS CONGRATULATIONS — The Don Gorvett Studio Reopens!
It was a warm and wonderful December night in the community.
Fully refurbished after the Beacon Marine Basin fire of last summer, the gallery was beautifully staged with artwork covering every wall and corridor. With a large turnout, Don Gorvett reported that many attendees learned of the event from COSMOS! Nice.
If you missed the event, do not fret. You can stop by the gallery every day between 9-2pm. Don welcomes guests and loves to answer questions. Besides the abundance of framed woodcuts, the gallery is also showing prints, sculptures, and other artwork.

TRANSITIONS — Steve Lush Exhibition
Opens at ROCKPORT ART ASSOCIATION
Through December 28
The artist, Steve has forged an artistic portfolio from an exploration begun with a ship model, and grown through watercolor, collage, montage and incredible oils capturing the more rugged land and seascapes.
Once an engineer, Steve’s eye sees the bones below the surface of these forms. His emergent and more abstract paintings are the next step in this fascinating progression.
The opening reception on December 18 was a fine party of friends, family, and a saxophone player.

RAAM NATIONAL 2022 SHOW
Rockport Art Association & Museum
Through December
The RAAM National 2022 Show (photo above) opened December 1 with a rich evening of camaraderie, champagne and shrimp, surrounded by the 150 paintings selected by jurors. Artists from across the nation as well as our regional artists were in attendance, many there to accept the prize money awarded by Ken Knowles. Now that the party is over, the mood in the galleries will be quiet contemplation and an aesthetic moment during the year end fun. Gift wrapped art fits under the tree.
GLOUCESTER ENCOUNTERS BOOK LAUNCH
Cape Ann Museum, November 20
Gloucester Cultural Initiative joined forces with the Cape Ann Museum on December 20 for the launch of Gloucester Encounters: Essays on the Cultural History of the City from 1623 – 2023. The book consists of 37 new essays by local writers on the city's cultural heritage for the city’s 400+ Anniversary. Editor Martin Ray spoke about the process of selecting and working with the authors to develop the anthology and Trenton Carls, CAM’s Head Librarian & Archivist, shared details on the resources from the Library and Archives that many of the contributors used for the book. The event also included readings from a selection of the contributing authors covering the breadth and depth of the cultural history of Gloucester.
