Happenings around the Greater Cape Ann Region

COSMOS Gallery opens for Nella De Luca Lush and Steve Lush, exhibition through November 16

POETIC PHENOMENON
Few poets, at least among the living, will ever enjoy a publishing trifecta. But such is the happy situation for Jim Dunn, described by Bing McGilvray as the “poet laureate of the COSMOS”.  As a tribute to Jim’s achievement, Bing has written an article rich in historical background that will guide you into the publications and two now legendary poets. To read Bing’s exclusive article: Jim Dunn’s Poetic Trifecta.

MUSICAL MEDIUMS
The variety of music performed in this region is truly diverse. With each issue of COSMOS, we select a mix of particularly unique concerts.  On November 16, a free concert will be hosted and performed by the fine musicians at the First Parish Church in Manchester. The concert, We Hold These Truths, will feature music and verse of American legends. On November 15, Cold Chocolate, a Boston-based duo fusing folk, funk, and bluegrass, will play at the Gloucester Meetinghouse: Tickets. And a third unusual concert will be at Shalin Liu Performance Center, on November 19, when the Videri String Quartet plays soundscapes of video game scores: Videri Strings and Video.

ENDICOTT ART EXHIBITIONS, FLOATING AND OTHERWISE
A display of artistic mobiles will soon open at the Carol Grillo Gallery, Endicott College, with artwork reincarnated from repurposed materials.  The artist, Yuko Nishikawa, draws on her background in architecture, furniture design and restoration.  Artist Erin Luman will have an exhibition focused on the spaces where creative people incubate their artistry.

GENIUS FROM THE CINEMATIC PAST
In his heyday, Charlie Chaplin was an amalgam of Steven Spielberg, Robin Williams, and Spencer Tracy. Today, the legendary figure can be admired in historic cinematic reels. One of his most famous films, The Gold Rush, will screen at Gloucester Meetinghouse on November 2. This special production will include accompaniment by Peter Krasinski on the 1893 Hutchings/Fisk organ. Not using a score, Krasinski will create a musical soundscape using the full tonal range of this powerful instrument and adding mystery and excitement to Chaplin's masterpiece. Charlie Chaplin Tickets.
